23 MAR 08 - Drilled Right Elevator End Ribs and Counterweight - 1.5 Hours
I drilled the right elevator E-703 and
E-704. Make sure that these ribs are fluted accurately or they won't sit flat against
one another.

I also drilled these two ribs to the E-702 spar.
After sanding down the surface of the E-714 counterweight so that it fits between
E-713 and E-703 and E-704, I drilled the counterweight for the right elevator.

Make sure to use plenty of Boe-lube while drilling or else the bit will load up
and throw the chuck (don't ask me how I know!)
Once the counterweight is drilled, it is reinserted into E-713 and E-703/704 and
these ribs are drilled. The plans call for the holes in the forward face of E-713
to be used as a drilling guide, but I just marked the holes and drilled the counterweight
using the drill press. I think it would be difficult to get a straight hole by simply
using the hand drill.

Even with the flanges of E-703 and E-704 properly fluted, it may be difficult to
cleco them to E-713. Getting an exact alignment of the pre-punched holes will prove
difficult, if not impossible.
